The Skydive Burnaby Tandem / AFP Progression


Coming back for more - Tandem # 2 - T2

Flying like 'Superman'. A tandem student enjoys skydive number 2.

So you want to come back for more? Well this is where it all begins!... (again) - The Skydive Burnaby 'Advanced Freefall Progression'.

Your second jump here is considered a 'Tandem Level 2' (T2) and it brings you as much excitement as your first jump but this time you learn a few more ‘skydiver tricks’.

T2 students learn more about the skydiving basics like:
  • Arch for Exit
  • Read an altimeter
  • Create turns in freefall
  • Open your own parachute at the correct altitude
  • Practice parachute control and landing techniques
  • Assist the instructor with landing your parachute
Accumulated Freefall Time:
  • Approx. 2 Minutes
Parachute Skills Acquired:
  • Recognition of ‘Good Chute’
  • Basic steering and landing techniques
  • Dropzone orientation

Skydive Burnaby Tandem # 3 - T3

Taking the lessons even further. Fly like 'Superman', learn how to properly read an Altimeter and open your parachute at the correct altitude.

Tandem Level 3 (T3) adds to the skills acquired on your first jump and T2

T3 students learn more about the skydiving basics like:
  • Arch for Exit
  • Reading an altimeter accurately
  • Create 360 turns in freefall
  • Tracking ( Flying like ‘Superman’)
  • Open your own parachute at the correct altitude
  • Practice parachute control and landing flare timing
Accumulated Freefall Time:
  • Approx. 3 Minutes
Parachute Skills Acquired:
  • Recognition of ‘Good Chute’
  • Steering, stalling and landing flare
  • Dropzone orientation and wind direction

Ground-school Required Training.

Skydive Burnaby uses the newest training techniques to develop safe, smart and confident skydivers.

Requirements:
  • Completion of T2 and T3 at a satisfactory level
  • Registration for Ground School Course

If you are a student at a different skydiving center we can include you in our Advanced Freefall Progression.
After a transition class we can modify our course to utilize the skills and knowledge you have already acquired.

  • Introduction to basic skydiving requirements
  • Dropzone orientation
  • Basic freefall hand signals
  • Equipment component identification

AFP 1 - 4th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 2 Instructors)

AFP 2 - 5th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 1 Instructor)

AFP 3 - 6th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 1 Instructor)

  • Solo parachute descent and landing (assistance as needed)
  • Minimal ground-to-air assistance - 1 way radio

AFP 4 - 7th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 1 Instructor)

AFP 5 - 8th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 1 Instructor)

AFP 6 - 9th Skydive (Assisted Freefall with 1 Instructor)

The parachute skills you acquire will enable you to learn to land smoothly and accurately.

  • Skydive Burnaby will be incorporating one additional level in the AFP program in 2010. Yes, this means another jump, but more importantly this means one more fantastic skydive under the guidance of a professional skydiving instructor.
  • More instruction relates to a better prepared and trained jumper and that translates to even more fun under the Burnaby sun!

AFP 7 - 10th Skydive Solo Exit 'Hop-N-Pop'

The next step... getting together with friends...
at 14 000 feet.

  • CSPA check-out jump (graduation skydive)
  • Equipment briefing and ‘Gear-Up’
  • Pre-exit gear check
  • Clear the airplane and deploy parachute from 4500ft. (Hop ‘N’ Pop)
  • Solo parachute descent and landing
  • Ground radio assistance if required

The skills and knowledge you have gained during the Skydive Burnaby AFP course prepare you for the 'Real World' of skydiving.

Our course is designed so that upon completion you are ready to be a 'Self-Supervised' skydiver. The next step is to keep jumping and working toward your CSPA 'A' License.
Accumulated Freefall Time: 10+ Minutes
Parachute Skills Acquired:
  • Recognize good canopy
  • Fly to the safe zone and observe other parachutes
  • Solo flare. The radio is always there, if you need it.
These level are shown as guidelines only. Occasionally it is necessary to go and do a 'Relaxed Dive' if a student has not acquired a particular skill.
Additional jumps are not included in the base price.
